Abstract

1328261 Casting cement W B BLACK 19 Aug 1971 [1 Sept 1970 28 Jan 1971 3 April 1971] 41776/70 3427/71 and 8600/71 Heading B5A [Also in Division E1] A method of coating a structural surface with a cementitious compound comprises the steps of securing to the said surface a number of ties which project therefrom, disposing adjacent said surface means defining therewith a mould and vibrating said means remote from said surface to compact the compound in the mould. A structural surface 20, from which ties 21 project, is coated with a cementitious compound by temporarily attaching flanged pairs of guides 22 to the surface with a vertically movable shutter plate 27 extending between each pair and carrying a vibrator 38. The compound is fed between each pair of guides and is compacted by the vibrating shutter plate which is gradually raised by a winding gear 39. The spaces between the thus formed adjacent blocks 44, Fig. 4, are filled in with cementitious compound after removing the guides and shutter plates. For this purpose the guides have plates inwardly projecting from their sides to form grooves 45 in the blocks between adjacent ones of which a shutter 46 with a vibrator 48 slides. Fig. 5 shows part of a vessel 20 to be provided with a double lining 51, 52; the guides 50 extend the full thickness of the lining and include flanges 55 and 53 respectively for guiding the shutters 54 which, after the back lining 51 has been applied, are transferred to the flanges 53 for casting the face lining 52. The space between adjacent blocks of lining are filled in the manner described above. Fig. 7 shows a two-part tie in which a Y-shaped part 70 is threaded into a nut 68 on a part 67 having an elbow shaped end received in a sleeve 66 secured to the surface 204 to be coated. During casting of the back lining 51A the part 70 is removed and the nut 68 is plugged. In a modification the part 70 is replaced by a pre-cast brick of the same compound as the face lining and extending to the surface of the face lining. In an alternative construction the tie is as shown in Fig. 9, and comprises a tube 76 welded to the surface 20c to be coated which houses a shank 78 with a head 77 which, when the back lining is cast, is located flush with the tube end. After such casting the head is extended to receive the end 83 of a rod 84 embedded in a pre-cast brick 85. In the embodiment of Fig. 10 a double lining is applied to a metal tube 87; a core 98 is positioned on the closed base of the tube and the space between it and the tube supplied with concrete from a tray 103; the core is raised and vibrated and further concrete is supplied. Such steps are repeated until the whole tube length is lined after which the core is replaced by a smaller one and the inner lining applied in a similar manner. The cores are raised by a mechanism 100 and gu ded by tubes 96, 97, extending through them to a removable framework 94. In a modification a cylindrical vessel is provided with a Venturi shaped lining by placing an appropriately shaped vibratory core centrally within the vessel and supplying concrete to the space therebetween.
