1327592 Welding by pressure STANDARD PRESSED STEEL CO 11 Dec 1970 [15 Dec 1969] 59135/70 Heading B3R [Also in Division F2] A fastener which may be a nut 10 or a bolt 24 for rigidly securing to a curved surface (23) of a structural member (22) has a portion 12, 26 with a part-spherical end surface 18, 32 and a plurality of welding projections 20, 34 formed on the surface which extend generally perpendicular to a plane containing the edges of the surface. The radius of curvature of the part spherical end surface 18, 32 of the fastener preferably does not exceed that of the curved surface (23) of the structural member so that when a welding current and pressure are applied to the fastener the projections melt to bond the surface 18, 32 and the surface (23) together.
