Abstract

1327002 Vibrators VIBRO-VERKEN AB 25 Feb 1972 [4 March 1971] 8843/72 Heading F2X [Also in Division B7] A dual amplitude vibrator has a pair of eccentric weights 12, 14 mounted on a shaft 10 in such a way that a different amplitude of vibration is obtained simply by reversing the rotation of the weights. The weight 12 is attached to the shaft and is rotatable with it, while the weight 14 is mounted on the shaft but is freely rotatable relative to it. Each weight 12, 14 has a pair of contact surfaces (20, 22 and 20<SP>1</SP>, 22<SP>1</SP> respectively) that co-operate with similar surfaces on the other weight, so that when the shaft 10 is rotated in a clockwise direction the surface 20 on the fixed weight 12 engages the surface 20<SP>1</SP> on the free weight 14, resulting in both weights revolving as a single composite eccentric weight as shown in Fig. 1. When the shaft 10 is rotated in an anticlockwise direction, the surfaces 22, 22<SP>1</SP> engage one another, as shown in Fig. 2, resulting in the formation of a composite weight with a centre of gravity nearer the shaft 10 and thereby generating vibrations of lower amplitude. The invention is described with particular reference to its application to the roller of a vibratory road compactor (Fig. 4, not shown). Two pairs of eccentric weights are mounted at opposite ends of the roller, each on a shaft section which is journalled in the roller by means of bearings positioned in outer and inner bearing housings. Each of the inner bearing housings forms a part of an oil reservoir which is integral with a side wall of the roller and projects inwardly from it, the reservoir containing oil for "oil bath" lubrication of the bearings. The shaft sections are joined by a drive shaft and driven by a reversible hydraulic motor.
