Abstract

1449370 Vibrators I L MARTINEZ 3 May 1974 [3 May 1973] 19519/74 Heading F2X A vibrating roller is provided with a shaft and an eccentric mass, the mass comprising at least one body idle relative to the shaft and at least one body rigid with the shaft, which bodies are so arranged that upon reversing the direction of rotation of the shaft, the respective centres of gravity of the bodies take distinct positions, the centrifugal forces generated thus attaining predetermined levels in each case. The roller is also provided with means for damping mechanical shock occurring upon reversing the direction of rotation of the shaft. In one embodiment (Figs. 2 and 4) employing hydraulic damping, an outer eccentric body 2 is fixed to a driving shaft 1 by means of keys 10 and houses an inner eccentric body 3. The inner body 3 rotates in an idle manner about the shaft 1 and takes predetermined positions depending upon the direction of rotation of shaft 1, when a projection 7 it carries abuts against a projection 5 on the outer body 2. Gaps 8 are formed between the bodies 2, 3 through which a damping liquid flows upon reversing the direction of rotation. In a second embodiment (Fig. 6) employing mechanical damping, an idling inner body 12 is mounted on the driving shaft 1 between two outer bodies 11 fixed to the shaft 1 by means of keys 10. Projections (13) (Figs. 5 and 7, not shown) rigid with the bodies 11 engage one of two diametrically opposite shoulders on the body 12 depending on the direction of rotation of the shaft 1. Shoes 14 positioned between the bodies 11, 12 are urged by springs 15 to provide the frictional force necessary for the driving engagement when the shaft 1 is rotated counterclockwise by making the bodies 11, 12 rigid with one another up to a predetermined speed, with a subsequent sliding therebetween when the centrifugal force generated in the idly rotating body 12 on the shaft 1 is higher than the frictional force, thus avoiding violent shocks.
