Abstract

1,166,025. Vibrators; disc brakes. LOSENHAUSEN MASCHINENBAU A.G. 21 Feb., 1968 [11 March, 1967], No. 8480/68. Headings F2E and F2X. A vibrator for use with a soil compactor or vibratory screen has eccentric masses 25, 26, 28, 30 keyed to a shaft 14 and eccentric masses 46, 42, 44, 48 keyed to a shaft 16. The mass 25 is constructed as a pinion 24 which meshes with a driving pinion (32) to rotate the shaft 14. The pinion 24 also meshes with a pinion 34 which is axially slidable and freely rotatable on shaft 16. Dogs 38, 40 relatively offset by 180 degrees project from opposite sides of the pinion 34 to engage, one at a time, respectively the masses 42, 44. An indexing mechanism 50 moves the pinion 34 axially, which movement due to the relative angular offset of the dogs 38, 40 causes a change in the relative angular position of the weights on shaft 16 with respect to the weights on shaft 14 and so changes the direction of vibration. A disc brake on the end of shaft 16 is actuated simultaneously and momentarily with the indexing mechanism to retard the shaft 16 to ensure that it assumes its new position with the respective dog engaging its respective weight. The disc brake, Fig. 9, has a disc 52 fast on the shaft 16 which also journals an operating disc 56 having in recesses 82 spring-loaded balls 86 engaged in inclined recesses of a disc 54 having a friction lining 70 and carried by a rubber bushing 74. The operating disc 56 has an extension 90 which is rotated angularly by a roller 94 on a lever 92 that is reciprocated simultaneously with the operation of the indexing mechanism. Rotation of the disc 56 causes the balls 86 to ride up the inclined recesses and displace the friction disc 54 axially to engage the disc 52 to retard it. Rubber bushing 74 returns the disc 54 after its actuation. A pair of vibrators are mounted on a sole plate (62), Fig. 6 (not shown), of a soil compactor which has a driving motor 68 mounted on a plate 64 carried by springs 66. Alteration of the direction of vibration of the vibrators alters the direction of movement of the compactor.
