Abstract
1326507 Rotary press filter A BAHR 20 May 1971 16095/71 Heading B1D Sewage or other sludge is fed by means 17, 18 into the bight between two endless filter belts 1, 4 which are driven around a rotary drum 2, squeezing the sludge between them. Drum 2 comprises an open structure of spaced rollers 8 mounted on a framework rotated by a variable speed motor (11) or indirectly by the belts, and the belts are urged against the drum by adjustably spring-loaded outer rollers 12 mounted on the fixed machine frame. Belts 1, 4 are driven by separate motors driving spring-loaded rollers 3, 5, and the belts and drum 2 may be driven at different speeds to break up the sludge and improve dewatering. Scraper 25 and sprinklers 26 remove dried sludge and clean the belts. Filtrate is removed via vessels 19, 20, 21. Rollers 8, 12 may have surface grooves (23) and be double tapered, and belts 1, 4 may have edge beads to seal the pressing space therebetween (Figs. 8, 9, not shown). Rollers 12 may increase the pressing force applied towards the discharge end of the press. Sludge may be mixed with coagulant upstream of the press (Fig. 1, not shown).
