Abstract
1,190,456. Liquid filter. CIBA Ltd. 9 Aug., 1967 [26 Aug., 1966; 29 June, 1967], No. 36634/67. Heading B1D. A closed filter housing 1 has a filter element 10 forming a false floor through which filtration occurs downwardly (Fig. 1, not shown) under applied suction or pressure, the housing being then tilted about axis 3, with suction maintained at liquid outlet 11, cover 13 removed and filter cake progressively discharged by advancing an electrically rotated blade 8 into the cake. Blade 8 is rotated one way to thus cut away the cake and is rotated the other way when the cake is being sucked dry, to smooth its surface. Cover 9 serves or has openings for introducing slurry to be filtered and applying/releasing gas pressure. The shaft carrying blade 8 may be hollow to introduce cake-washing liquid. In another embodiment (Figs. 3 .. 5, not shown), the housing is formed as an oblique frusto-cone, above the range of blade 8, and a single cover 9 serves for introducing slurry and removing cake. The housing is tilted and blade 8 advanced mechanically or hydraulically, and angle α, between element 10 or one edge line of the housing and horizontal, may be 45 to 80 degrees in the tilted position.
