Abstract

1326366 Photographic metal images KODAK Ltd 26 Nov 1970 [28 Nov 1969] 58294/69 Heading G2C A metal pattern in a layer comprising a patternwise distribution of the metal and a complimentary distribution of a first compound of the metal in a low equivalent oxidation state, is fixed by treating with a solution of an oxidizing agent which oxidizes the first compound to a second compound in which the metal is in a high oxidation state and which is more soluble in the solution than the first compound so that it is removed. Preferably the first compound is indium bromide, cuprous oxide or bismuth subchloride and the oxidizing agent is an alkali-metal ferricyanide, dichromate, persulphate, chlorate, perchlorate, iodate, periodate, bromate, iodine, bromine or chloranil. In the case of cuprous oxide the fixed layer is preferably after-treated with an alkaline solution of a reducing agent.
