Abstract
1326254 Valves RELF RESEARCH Ltd 16 Sept 1970 [19 Sept 1969] 44256/70 Heading F2V A mixing valve includes hot and cold water inlet valves 14, 17 communicating respectively with ports 22, 21 (Fig. 4) in a chamber containing a rotary cylindrical valve member 23. In the closed position of Fig. 4, both ports 22, 21 are sealed by pressure-balanced resilient plugs 30, 31 carried by the valve member. Initial rotation of the valve member progressively aligns slot 38 with port 21 allowing cold water to flow to outlet 43 via passages 39, 40 and mixing chamber 41. Continued rotation then serves to align slot 42 with port 22 allowing hot water to flow to chamber 41. The Venturi effect in passages 40, 44 tends to accommodate pressure differences between the hot and cold water supplies; a similar effect can be obtained with a ring of oblique cold water nozzles entering a central mixing passage to which hot water is admitted axially. Hole 46 in the valve member allows withdrawal of the valve member using a hooked tool. A control knob (2, 3) engages grooves 29 on a collar 28 carrying a radial screw 25 adapted to extend through housing slot 26 into hole 27 in the valve member. The valve assembly has mounting lugs 12 and escutcheon plate (1) support lugs 13. Removable nozzle 7 has outlet holes and depressions 8, 9. Where the hot and cold water supplies are at the same pressure, both flows can enter mixing chamber 41 directly.
