Abstract

1325916 Bituminous composition MOBIL OIL CORP 21 Dec 1970 [20 Jan 1970] 60448/70 Heading C3N [Also in Divisions B1 B2 C5 and EI] Bitumen is foamed by means of steam to enable it to be mixed more readily with soil to consolidate the soil. The foam is produced by mixing water with the molten bitumen under pressure and then releasing the pressure so that the water vaporizes. Examples of mixtures are given containing 2À8, 3À5 and 3À8% bitumen. The bitumen described is of 90 penetration quality. The soil is preferably treated when at its fluff point, i.e. at the moisture content which corresponds to the lowest density.
