Abstract
1325856 Travelling wave tubes HUGHES AIRCRAFT CO 7 July 1971 31885/71 Heading H1D In order to reduce band edge oscillations in a travelling wave tube having a coupled cell slow wave structure, bodies of lossy material 154a to 154d and 156a to 156d are provided in cavities tuned to the undesired frequency at the perimeter of the interaction cells 146a to 146d, the lossy material protruding into the said cells. The degree of protrusion can be constant or can vary longitudinally in the tube. The invention can be applied to a severed travelling wave tube, in which case a varying protrusion provides a suitable termination for each section. The lever 134<SP>1</SP> between adjacent sections consists of a wall similar to those defining the interaction cells but without a coupling aperture. An exhaust tube (26), Fig. 1 (not shown), is connected to both the inlet and outlet ends of the tube.
