Abstract
1325733 Gas chromatography GAS COUNCIL 13 Aug 1971 [23 Sept 1970] 45358/70 Heading B1X Gaseous samples, e.g. air/methane or natural gas to be chromatographically analysed are selectively fed to a manifold 11 by valved pipes 10 and thence via a fixed volume slide or piston multiport valve 13 to a packed column 20, e.g. of metal and detector 22, e.g. a kathurometer, and U.V. recorder 26. Carrier gas is introduced to the valve 13 by pipe 17 having pressure regulator 15 and gauge 16. The valve 13 is operated by electromechanical or electronic timers 23, e.g. solenoids 18, 19. A sample is flushed through the valve by the subsequent sample. The column packing may be granules of ethyl-vinyl benzene polymer or 3% w/w squalene on 100/150 B.S.S. silica gel, and the carrier gas may be helium. More than one column (and detector) may be used in parallel for selective separation.
