Abstract

1325718 Ampoules ASTRA AB 18 Dec 1970 [19 Dec 1969] 60295/70 Heading B8C [Also in Division A5] An ampoule comprises a cylindrical body 2 closed at one end by a piston (4) inserted in the body, and having part of the body wall radially displaced to restrain the piston against axial movement of that end of the cylinder. The ampoule is made by accommodating the body 2 containing the medicament in a bore in a die 6 and inserting the piston (4) in the end ofthe body. The body wall is then displaced radially inwards by stamping the end of the cylinder with a punching tool 7 whose punching surface 9 extends axially from the tool and whose diameter is between the inner and outer cylinder diameter so that an inwardly extending lip 11 formed to retain the piston, and the remaining axially extending wall is of reduced thickness. The punching surface 9 may be the same diameter as the cylinder outer diameter in which case an inturned edge (11a), Fig. 1 (not shown), is formed. In further embodiments Figs. 3 and 7 and 4 and 8 (not shown),inturnedtongues (11b), (11c) may be formed by a punching tool having diametrically opposed extensions (12) on the punching surface, Fig. 12 (not shown), or projections (14), (15), (16) which extend axially from the planar end of the tool to stamp out the tongues. The punching tool or the die may be heated to soften the material for punching. The end of the ampoule remote from the piston may be sealed by a membrane.
