Abstract

1325696 Thermal insulation HITACHI SHIPBUILDING & ENG CO Ltd 28 Aug 1970 41528/70 Heading F2X [Also in Division F4] A liquefied gas storage tank 10 of metal plate is heat insulated by means of a double layer of insulation, the first layer 17 adjacent the tank being resilient in order to take up thermal movements, the second, 19, being a more rigid, self bonding, synthetic resin foam layer. The first layer 17 which may be bonded to the tank 10 by a resin adhesive 16 may comprise a soft synthetic resin foam, a layer of cloth, or paper, or a pasty mixture of synthetic resin, a base of paper or cloth, and a foaming agent applied to the tank and then foamed. The second layer 19 of e.g. polyurethane is then foamed over the first layer 17 after an enclosure 18 has been located around the tank 10. The insulated tank 10 may be located, with clearance within the hull of a ship, Fig. 1 (not shown), the interior of the hull being similarly lined with a double layer of insulation.
