1325409 Clothes airers HILLS INDUSTRIES Ltd 15 March 1972 [18 March 1971] 11945/72 Heading A4U In a clothes airer comprising radial support arms 29 pivoted to a boss 25, which slides on a standard 11, and supported by pivoted links 14, which are pivoted at their upper ends to the standard, clothes lines 35 are secured to and extend between the arms which are maintained in an extended position by the engagement, at a position higher than at least some of the clothes lines, of a latch member 19 with a lug 31 on the boss. The member 19 is freely pivoted on a collar 18 secured to the standard and has an outwardly extending portion which provides a finger grip and a cam face. The arms 29 comprise an upper member 33 and a lower member 34 to which the lines 35 are secured, tension in the lines increasing as the boss is moved upwardly and decreasing after the boss has passed into an overcentre position, so that the airer is stable even if the latch does not operate properly. A second lower latch may be provided to secure the arms in folded position. In a modification shown in Fig.2, the arms each comprise a single member having line-securing loops on its upper surface.
