Abstract

1325287 Conveying fruit in liquid channels SICA "POMANJOU" 14 Feb 1972 [16 Feb 1971] 6752/72 Heading B8A Fruit 7 conveyed in a liquid trough 2 is formed into batches by the action of two spaced upstream and downstream baffles (4) and (5) (Figs. 1-3, not shown), respectively. Firstly the desired number of fruit 7 is floated into the zone of the trough between the baffles, the baffles 4 being open. The baffle 4 is closed when the fruit is collected, and the baffle 5 is then opened, so that the fruit can pass to a storage or packaging unit (not shown). Each baffle comprises a member 10 carried by arms 12 pivotally mounted at 13. The arms 12 can be swung from a baffle inoperative position (broken lines) to an operative position (full lines) and vice versa, by the action of a piston/cylinder unit 17. A member 22 prevents accumulated fruit sinking to the bottom of the trough 2.
