Abstract

1325063 Belt fastening machines HAYDENNILOS Ltd 4 Aug 1971 [7 Aug 1970] 38094/70 Heading F2Q In a belt-fastening machine having a jaw unit comprising a pivot block 9 which is movable to actuate a pair of jaws 10A, 10B carried by pivoted levers 14A, 14B, links 15A, 15B are pivotally attached to the levers 14A, 14B, and are provided with slots 16A, 16B which engage a pivot 17 on the block 9. The pivot block 9 is provided with a roller 18 which is adapted to rock the lever 14A before the lost motion afforded by the slots 16A, 16B is taken up, whereby the jaw 10A is able to make an initial closing movement of the splayed limbs of a fastener element 38 before a staple 37 is driven by the jaw 10B. The pivot block 9 may be moved by a screw 11 provided with handles 13A, 13B. Alternatively, the block 9 may be moved by a double-acting hydraulic ram. The jaw unit may be moved progressively across the frame by means of a ratchet mechanism which may be operated on the return stroke of a double-acting hydraulic ram. The jaw 10A is provided with recesses, which are adapted to turn over the ends of the staples 37, and with adjustment means 21. A belt end 34 is adapted to be clamped between bars 26, 32.
