Abstract
1324800 Starting diesel engines AUTOMOBILES PEUGEOT and REGIE NATIONALE DES USINES RENAULT 3 Nov 1970 [7 Jan 1970] 52335/70 Heading H2H A circuit for starting and stopping a diesel engine comprises a battery 31, a main switch 32, a heating circuit 33, a circuit 35 controlling a starter 36 and an electromagnetically locked, manual control member 60 for maintaining a valve 58 in a fuel supply conduit 59 open so long as the main switch is in a "running" position. When the switch 32 is placed in its "running" position, contacts 38, 39 are engaged thereby energizing the coil 62 of the electromagnetic lock and depressing a plunger 61 against the member 60. A relay coil 43 is also energized via the switch of a voltage regulator 56 for an alternator 55 so that a switch 41 is closed and heater plugs 48 start to warm up. After a certain time a bimetallic strip 49 heated by a resistor 47 closes a contact 50 thus illuminating a lamp 51. When the number 60 is pulled outwardly the plunger 61 enters a notch 60a to lock the valve 58 open and a contact 63 is closed so that on moving the switch 32 into its third position in which the contact 38 engages contact 40 the starter 36 is energized. When the engine starts the regulator 56 breaks the supply to the relay coil 43 so that the heater plugs are cut off from their supply and an oil pressure switch 53 opens to extinguish a lamp 54. If the starter is not actuated after moving the switch to the "running" position, a bimetallic strip 45 opens a contact 44 to deenergize the relay coil 43 and cut off the supply to the heater plugs. On returning the switch 32 to its first or "stop" position the coil 62 is deenergized and a spring returns the member 60 to its valve closing position.
