Abstract
1324608 Extruding WESTERN ELECTRIC CO Inc 30 Sept 1970 [1 Oct 1969] 46493/70 Heading B3P A hydrostatic extrusion apparatus comprises a die element 22 mounted on a ram 18 and having a flow control surface 23 along which the fluid flows during extrusion to space the billet material from the element and a die 27 to further reduce the extruded material. The ram is advanced into a chamber 11 to pressurize the fluid and cause the extrusion. The fluid is castor oil and is discharged along ducts 31, 34, 35 through control valves 36. The hydrostatically extruded material is still hot when it passes through the die 27 so it is extruded before the work hardening becomes complete. The die 27 can effect a sizing or burnishing operation of the material.
