Abstract

1324384 Working at specified temperatures; making bar, strip and wire BEKAERT SA NV 21 Oct 1970 [21 Oct 1969] 50027/70 Headings B3A and B3V A ferrite-pearlite carbon steel member for reinforcing concrete is formed by cold working such a continuous steel member and quickly thereafter warm drawing the steel whilst it is subjected to axial tension and a backpull such that the finishing temperature is 350-500‹C. The steel in bar, strip or wire form is first cold worked by drawing, rolling, stretching or straightening and then warm worked within 10 seconds by drawing. The backpull may be produced by a preceding drawing die or by a drum over which a few loops of the member have been passed, the axial tension applying a stress of from 15% of the tensile strength to the elastic limit of the steel. In an example, a 0À76%C steel wire is cold drawn through a series of dies and heated by an electric current, induction oven or heating bath before passing through the final die which it leaves at a finishing temperature of 400‹C.
