Abstract
PURPOSE:To obtain a steel wire of high tensile strength and high toughness by holding the steel wire having been subjected to high-frequency heating in each stage of hardening and tempering for a predetermined time at the temp. about the same as that of a high-frequency coil in a soaking pit provided just behind the high-frequecy heating coil. CONSTITUTION:The steel wire 11 to be heat-treated passes guide rollers 2, and leveling rollers 3, thence it enters a high-frequency heating coil 4 and is high-frequency-heated and is austenitized. Thereafter, it is heated to the temp. about the same as that of the high-frequency coil 4 for a predetermined time in a soaking pit 5, after which it is quickly cooled in a hardening cell 6. Thereupon, it is again reheated in the high-frequency heating coil 7 for tempering, following to which it is held for a fixed time at about the same temp. in a soaking pit 9. Thereby, the uniform tempered sorbite structure is obtained and the steel wire of high tensile strength and high toughness is obtained.
