Abstract

1324014 Tin electro-plating baths KENVERT INTERNATIONAL CORP 15 Oct 1970 [19 Nov 1969] 48990/70 Heading C7B An aqueous acid bath for electro-depositing tin on to a metallic surface, e.g. of Cu, Ni, Fe or steel, comprises 35-85 g/l stannous ion, 70-250 g/l sulphate radical, 0À25-25g/l surface active imidazoline derivative, 0À15-15g/l tertcarbinamine polyoxyalkylene, 0À005-1g/l cyclic aldehyde and/or ketone brightener, 0À9-4À5g/l H ion, and optionally 0-5g/l ethylene and/or propylene oxide-alkylphenol condensate, 0-1 g/l polyvinyl alcohol auxiliary brightener, 5-20 g/l citric, malic or an aminopolyacetic acid as chelating agent, alkanols or glycol ethers. The stannous ion may be provided by stannous sulphate or fluoborate, and the surface radical by sulphuric acid. Examples of the essential brightener are thiopene, furan and pyrrole aldehyde. Many examples of the surface active agents are specified. The bath may be applied to barrel or continuous strip or wire plating.
