1323814 Railway vehicle undercarriages DRESSER INDUSTRIES Inc 11 May 1971 [27 May 1970] 14267/71 Heading B7L A body bolster centre filler-centre plate assembly for a railway vehicle comprises a centre sill 10 (see Fig. 3) of generally inverted U-shaped cross-section having walls 22, 23, 24, which intersects a body bolster 9, and spacer plates 31, 32 (see Fig. 4) welded to the walls of the centre sill at opposite sides of the region of intersection of the sill and bolster to form a rectangular bottom-open pocket 30 which receives a centre plate 15, the plate 15 being welded to the bottom edges of the pocket walls. The side walls 22, 23 of the centre sill have integrally formed laterally extending flanges 20, 21 and the spacer plates 31, 32 are additionally secured in place by horizontal tie plates 33, 34 welded to the plates 31, 32 and to the sill side walls. The centre plate 15 comprises a circular lower cap section 35 and an upper webbed section 36 which is received in the pocket 30, the lower section 35 being shaped to co-operate with a bowl (13) in a truck bolster (11) see Fig. 1 (not shown). A bore 14 in the plate 15 receives a king pin (12). The cap section 35 has four corner positioning pads 41 see Fig. 5 and intermediate bevelled welding surfaces 42, which are butt welded to the edges of the sill walls and spacer plates which define the pocket 30, to secure the centre plate within the pocket. Wedge-shaped draft lugs (53, 54) in Figs. 8-11 (not shown) may be welded to the sill walls.
