Abstract

1323449 Standby power supply systems KLOCKNER-HUMBOLDT-DEUTZ AG 30 Nov 1970 [3 Dec 1969] 56900/70 Heading H2H A standby power supply system comprises a generator 2, an electric motor 3, a flywheel 4, a super-charged internal combustion engine 6 and a cylinder 14 of compressed air which, in the event of a changeover from mains operation to emergency power generation, supplies at least some of the air for supercharging the engine. The compressor of the supercharger 7 is driven by an exhaust gas turbine and supplies air to the engine cylinders 9 via a pipe 10. To enable the turbine to reach full speed as rapidly as possible, the compressor also receives air from the cylinder 14 via a pressure reducing valve 13 and a valve 15 the opening of which varies in dependence on the turbine speed. The valve is closed when the turbine reaches full speed.
