Abstract
1323326 Filtration of dry-cleaning solvents G MAESTRELLI 9 Oct 1970 [5 Nov 1969] 48151/70 Heading B1D Contaminated solvent, flowing from drycleaning plant A through outlet 12, is filtered through a rotating perforated cylindrical drum F disposed in casing 18, the coarse solid matter separated from the solvent (e.g. tufts of wool or cotton, pins, buttons) being removed from the outer surface of the drum by scraper blade M and being collected in perforated box P. The filtered solvent is withdrawn from the interior of the drum through a pipe 14 by means of a pump (not shown), and may be passed through a fine filter before being returned to plant A. Drum F is geared to motor G which is automatically started when valve H is opened; and the drum rotates during the whole time that the valve is kept open. The curved perforated wall Q, forming a diffusor-shaped space below drum F, aids the separation of solid matter from the solvent. The degree of friction between blade M and the surface of the drum may be adjusted by counterweight N and/or spring N'. The drum may be made of perforated metal sheet or wire net.
