The filtered solvent is withdrawn from the interior of the drum through a pipe 14 by means of a pump (not shown), and may be passed through a fine filter before being returned to plant A. Drum F is geared to motor G which is automatically started when valve H is opened; and the drum rotates during the whole time that the valve is kept open. The curved perforated wall Q, forming a diffusor-shaped space below drum F, aids the separation of solid matter from the solvent. The degree of friction between blade M and the surface of the drum may be adjusted by counterweight N and/or spring N'. The drum may be made of perforated metal sheet or wire net.
