Abstract

812,943. Rotary filters. LEJE & THURNE A.B. Sept. 14, 1956 [Sept. 15, 1955], No. 28122/56. Class 46. A rotating drum filter comprises a strainer jacket 3, preferably consisting of a perforated sheet and wire gauze, carried by rods 4, 5, 6 and 7 of the drum to form a folded straining surface. A conduit 11 extending below and parallel to the axis of the drum is divided into two separated compartments bya sloping partition 13, the top compartment being open to a trough 12 and the bottom compartment having a slit 16 on the downwardly moving side of the drum. In operation liquid to be filtered is supplied to the interior of the drum through conduit 11 and slit 16 so that the level of the liquid 46 remains on a level with the axis of rotation. An adjustable slide blade 41, arranged below the liquid level 46 on the downwardly moving side of the drum, directs the intial filtrate, which will be incompletely purified, into a shoot 42 from where it may be returned to the drum. Pure filtrate falls into the bottom of the casing 25 and is discharged through outlet 37. Air is supplied through conduit 22 and channel 21 to the top of the drum to remove the residue which falls into the trough 12 and is discharged through the top compartment of conduit 11. Any remaining residue is removed by a spray 18. The filter may be arranged in a closed tank.
