Abstract

During filtration, filtrate is discharged through a hollow shaft 1 on which filter leaves 2 are mounted, Fig. 2 (not shown). A lower agitator 4 is simultaneously rotated. When cakes are formed, suspension supply is discontinued and casing 5 is emptied. Then the leaves are rotated so that the cakes may be washed and detached by solvent sprayed from sprinklers 3. When solvent has reached a certain level in casing 5 it is extracted through leaves 2 and shaft 1 to wash the filter cloths on the leaves. Next, the solvent-cake mixture is discharged at 11 into a container 6 where solvent is removed by steam and discharged at 13. Water is then introduced at 14 to enable the cake to be removed as slurry at 12. Finally the cloths may be dried by a heating system (not shown) on casing 5 and by optional injection of warm air.
