Abstract

1,059,194. Filters. SCHENK FILTERBAU G.m.b.H. Aug. 13, 1965 [Feb. 6, 1965], No. 34686/65. Addition to 1,057,524. Heading BID. In a filter as described in the parent Specification in which after a filtering run the residue is centrifugally removed from disc filter elements 3 by rotating them on hollow shaft 2 and a displacement body 11 reduces the volume of the lower part of the housing, the housing is first partly drained by withdrawing liquid through lowermost filter element 13, which has a separate outlet 14 from the other elements, and remaining liquid is withdrawn from location 17 and pumped to a nozzle 19 which delivers it to the upper face of element 13, whereby all the liquid in the housing is filtered prior to rotating the shaft 2 and removing residue from outlet 15. Outlet 14 is closed during normal filtration, so that element 13 is used only during the drainage step, which is effected by supplying compressed gas to inlet 16. A perforate plate 20 may assist uniform distribution over element 13. The upper faces of the filter elements are cloth covered.
