Abstract

1323248 Quenching-press UZINA CONSTRUCTII MASINI AGRICOLE "7 NOIEMBRIE" 21 Oct 1971 49043/71 Heading C7N [Also in Division B3] A pre-heated sheet of metal 28 is hardened either with or without bending, by compressing the sheet between a pair of vertical dies 3 mounted in a tank 1 and then filling the tank sufficiently rapidly with a cooling liquid e.g. oil or water to ensure substantially even cooling of the sheet. In operation the sheet is inserted through a hole a in the tank to a position on shafts 4 between the dies and is held in this position by spring-loaded pins (not shown) mounted in the dies. The sheet is then compressed between the dies on actuating pneumatic rams 8 after which cooling liquid is flushed into the tank 1 from an upper tank 18 and is flushed out into a lower tank 14 after a suitable period of time. The dies are honeycombe shaped and their working surfaces are serrated.
