Abstract
1323172 Calcium oxide INDUSTRIAL PLANT (COMBUSTION) Ltd 27 April 1971 11500/71 Addition to 923813 Heading C1A Limestone or material containing a major proportion of calcium carbonate is calcined in a shaft kiln by forming a mixture of superheated steam and a hot combustible gas, the gas being either natural gas or one produced by gasification of a liquefied petroleum gas and introducing the mixture into the calcining zone of the kiln for combustion with air also introduced into that zone. With natural gas, the introduction of the steam may be effected by one or more spray nozzles discharging water into a duct by which the gas is fed to the kiln. With liquefied petroleum gas water may be injected into the gasifier so as to produce superheated steam simultaneously with hotting up the gas.
