1323132 Switchgear structures SOLVAY ET CIE 11 Nov 1970 [20 Nov 1969] 53682/70 Heading H1N A transportable electric switch 15, Fig. 2, mounted on a carriage 1 movable along rails 3 between parallel rows of electrolytic cells 4, 5, 6 or 4<SP>1</SP>, 5<SP>1</SP>, 6<SP>1</SP>, Fig. 3, and for short-circuiting a selected cell, (as 5) is movable transversely of the rails 3 as on wheels 14 whereby terminal connections 16, 17 of the switch 15 engage a pair of plates 7 at opposite ends of the selected cell 5. After connection at the terminals, bolts 27 may be inserted through slots 28 and tightened to secure the connection and the cell 5 may then be short-circuit by engagement of strip contacts 25 with a series of clip contacts 23 mounted on a plate 21 attached at a bent up end 2 to a common mounting strip 19 for the terminal 17, 17<SP>1</SP>. The strip contacts 25 are carried by a pair of bus-bars 20 mounted on the common connecting bar 19 for the terminal 16, 16<SP>1</SP>. The connecting plates 7 between the cell pairs 4-5; 5,6 &c. each carry a multiplicity of clips 8, 9 on opposite faces for connection to terminals 10, 11 of the respective cell.
