Abstract
1323073 Ejection guns M L AVIATION CO Ltd 30 Oct 1970 [6 Aug 1969] 39360/69 Heading F3C An ejection gun for projecting objects from aircraft comprises two coaxial cylinders 22, 24 located within a cylindrical casing 40, the cylinders 22, 24 and the casing being of substantially the same length. The outer cylinder 22 is arranged to slide within the casing 40 and the inner cylinder 24 within the outer cylinder 22, seals being preferably provided at the sliding interfaces. The casing 40 is closed at one end and open at the other and a pressure gas source (Fig. 1, not shown) communicates through a restriction 18 in the closed end of the casing to act on the adjacent ends of the coaxial cylinders 22, 24. A piston-like member 34 is rigidly attached to the closed end of the casing and has a piston portion adjacent the open end of the casing and in sliding sealed contact within the inner tube. The member 34 is provided with a radially extending outlet 32 which communicates with the pressure gas source through an axial passage 30 in the member 34. In operation pressurized gas passing through the restriction 18 drives the two cylinders 22, 24 along the casing together until the outer cylinder 22 is stopped with its inner end adjacent the open end of the casing. The stopping of the outer cylinder 22 substantially coincides with the opening of the radial extending outlet 32. Pressurized gas then passes through the outlet 32 to act on the inner cylinder 24 to eject the inner cylinder from the device. The initial pulse of pressurized gas through the orifice 18 is cushioned by a reservoir 28. The inner cylinder 24 is connected to the object to be ejected by a stud 26. Pressurized gas is produced by firing a cartridge, the gas also actuating an overcentre toggle mechanism for releasing the object to be ejected (Fig. 1, not shown).
