Abstract

1322922 Handling blowing lances VEREINIGTE OSTERREICHISCHE EISENUND STAHLWERKE AG 24 Sept 1970 [25 Sept 1969] 45647/70 Heading F4B A lance 1 removed from a vessel of molten metal, is lowered so that its nozzle end 4 projects through a quiver 13 and a slot 8 in a working platform. The quiver 13 is mounted for rotation about a horizontal axis on a carriage 10 running on rails 9, and has means for securing the lance 1 to the quiver near its centre of gravity S or at a convenient point below it. The pulley 2 supporting the lance 1 is lowered further, and the carriage 10 moves along the platform until the upper part of the lance 1 rests in a support 17 on a second trolley 11. The quiver 13 and support 17 may be mounted on a single vehicle and the arrangement may be such that the lance can be turned about a vertical axis while still supported by the vehicle. The quiver 13 is short in relation to the length of the lance, and a gradient in the rails ensures that the horizontal movement of the quiver 13 is in the cesired direction.
