Abstract
1322905 Electric cables PYROTENAX Ltd 19 April 1971 [27 Feb 1970] 9688/70 Addition to 1215388 Heading H1A An electric power or communication cable having at least one insulated core of aluminium or aluminium based alloy and a plastics sheath comprises a mineral insulated cable 10 which has a sheath 14 of aluminium or aluminium based alloy. The mineral insulated cable may be connected to a detector to indicate when damage to the cable has allowed moisture to enter the sheath. The main cable may include armouring, concentric screen or, as shown, neutral conductor 5 comprising wires, one or more of which may be replaced by mineralinsulated cables 10. Three aluminium conductors 1 each insulated by polyvinyl chloride 2 are laid up together on a plastics preform 3 and covered by a polyvinyl chloride covering 4. Concentric neutral conductor 5 comprises aluminium strips 6 and four circumferentially spaced flattened mineral insulated cables 10 helically laid over covering 4. Each mineral insulated cable has an aluminium conductor 11 embedded in and insulated from an aluminium sheath 14 by compacted magnesium oxide 12. An extruded polyvinyl chloride sheath 7 covers the neutral conductor 5.
