1321834 Locks CLARKE INSTRUMENTS Ltd 19 April 1971 [23 March 1970 29 April 1970] 14005/70 and 20679/70 Heading E2A A lock comprises a rotatable catch 8 engageable with a pin keeper 34, a locking pin 18a engageable with a socket 14 in the catch and releasable therefrom by operating a solenoid 20, the catch having a recess 12 engageable by the keeper to secure the lock, the recess having a curved wall 12a engageable by the keeper when the door or other support for the keeper is closed to rotate the catch to the fastening position. The locking pin 18a is urged to engage in the socket by a spring 30 surrounding a body portion 18b of a plunger connected to the pin in a housing 2. The solenoid 20 in a sleeve of magnetic material is mounted on the housing 2, the iron core 26 in the coil 22 is secured to the coil by a screw 28. The plunger 18 is made of magnetic material and projects into the coil 22. In a modification the spindle of the catch extends parallel to the axis of the plunger and the socket 14 is at right angles to the recess 12 in the catch the shape of which is elongated. Instead of engaging in the socket 14, the pin can engage a side of the catch or in the recess. A spring may retain the catch in the releasing position. The keeper may be withdrawn by a key or handle. The solenoid may be actuated by an electric signal controlled by a combination lock. The housing may have an aperture on one side for insertion of a tool to withdraw the locking pin should the solenoid fail the locking pin being inaccessible from at least one side of the housing.
