Abstract

1419710 Locks PIONEER AUDIO CORP 27 July 1973 [31 July 1972 5 Aug 1972 24 Oct 1972 14 April 1973] 35783/73 Heading E2A A latch-bolt 7 may be retracted when the door is shut, Fig. 2, by an energy-storing bolt 18 which is driven in as the door is shut to compress spring 23 against a latch 32, and when this latch is released by a shaped sliding rod 45, 46 operated by pushbuttons 49, a bracket 13 sliding in guides 50, 51 and against which the spring 23 is compressed, is released by the latch 32 to move to the right and, in so doing, to engage a pin 15 on the tail 9 of the latch-bolt 7 to withdraw it. A dead-bolt 62 may be shot to its fastening position, Fig. 2, by a pin 74 engaging a slot 68 in its tail, this pin being mounted on a lever on a spindle 69 operated by a barrel look on one side of the door or by a turn-button on the other (Fig. 4, not shown). The dead-bolt is held in its projecting position by a latch 78 until, on clockwise movement of the lock-spindle 69 a lobe 71 engages a pin 82 to lift it clear. At the same time, this clockwise rotation causes an arm 91 to engage a pin 94 on the tail of the latch-bolt 7 to retract it. In a modification, Figs. 6 and 7 (not shown) the latch-bolt is locked instead of using a separate dead bolt, and in Figs. 8-12 (also not shown) an alternative mechanism including an indicating circuit is described. In a further modification, Figs. 13-17 (also not shown) the latch bolt resides within a hollow energy-storing bolt. The release button may operate an alarm switch.
