Abstract

1321823 Deodorising device CALMIC Ltd 28 July 1970 [1 Aug 1969] 38652/69 Heading A5G [Also in Division El] In deodorising apparatus for water closets, of the kind comprising- means for causing a flow of air in a pipe during flushing or refilling of a cistern, the pipe dipping below the level of deodorant liquid in a container whereby the air bubbles through the liquid to generate a deodorant vapour, the pipe 20 is in the form of a siphon tube the longer leg 26 of which dips into the deodorant liquid in the container 19, while the shorter siphon leg 25 ends within a second container 22, the two containers being situated in respective compartments 23, 24 which are pneumatically sealed from one another. As a result, any suck-back of deodorant liquid caused by a reverse flow of air in the pipe 20 results in the sucked-back liquid being received in the second container, from which it can subsequently return by siphonic action to the container 19. In the embodiment of Fig. 2, water is adapted to enter the compartment 24 from a cistern (not shown) during the flushing cycle thereof to create the flow of air in pipe 20. A float-controlled valve (15, Fig. 3, not shown) limits the rise of water level in the compartment 24 and determines the quantity of air bubbling through the deodorant liquid, which passes into the room via openings in a cover 4. Water then drains from compartment 24 and liquid is sucked back into container 22 until draining is complete, after which the liquid returns to the container 19. In the modification of Fig. 4. the float-controlled valve is omitted, and water does not enter compartment 24. Instead, compartment 24 is connected by a pipe 27 to a sealed cistern 29 of a low-flush suite such that a flow of air in the pipe 27, and hence in the siphon pipe 20, occurs during refilling of the cistern, the suck-back occurring during emptying of the cistern. The lower end of pipe 27 within the cistern is connected to an open-bottomed container into which is inserted a disinfectantimpregnated pad which disinfects the flushing water. A similar container may be fitted within compartment 24 in the first embodiment.
