Description

May 24, 1955 DEVICE FDR AUTOMATICALLY INJECTING SOLUTIQNS INTO TOELET BOWLS Archibald P. Hudgins, Charleston, W. Va.
Application November 28, 1952, Serial No. 322,930
1 Claim. (Cl. 4225) The present invention relates to a device for automatically injecting solutions into toilet bowls and it consists in the combinations, constructions and arrangements of parts herein described and claimed.
Generally there is provided a device which is designed to be mounted within a conventional flush box of a toilet and which is designed to act automatically to dispense a measured amount of concentrated solution such as disinfectant, deodorant or perfurning agents through the overflow tube of a flush tank to the Water in the bowl Where it will remain between flushings of the flush tank.
It is accordingly an object of the invention to provide a novel attachment for flush tanks having means for automatically dispensing a solution to the toilet bowl connected. with such tank.
Another object of the invention is to provide, in a device of the character set forth, novel pressure actuated means for dispensing a liquid, such means forming a part of the invention.
Another object of the invention is to provide a device of the character set forth which is simple in construction, inexpensive to manufacture and yet effective and efiicient in use.
Uther and further objects of the invention will become apparent from a reading of the following specificatio taken in conjunction with the drawing, in which the figure is an elevational view of an embodiment of the invention shown mounted in a conventional flush tank.
Referring more particularly to the drawing, there is shown therein a conventional flush tank 10 having a con. ventional drain pipe 11 connected to the lower end thereof and having extending upwardly therein a conventional overflow pipe 12.
The device comprising the present invention consists of a container 13 in which may be placed a solution such as a disinfectant, a deodorant or a perfurning agent. A tube 14 extends downwardly to a point adjacent the bottom of the container 13 and is connected to the upper end of a tube 15 which protrudes for a distance into the upper end portion of the overflow pipe 12. The lower end of the member 15 is constricted, as indicated at 1'1, and the end 17 is mounted within a bowl 1-6 which is fixed within the pipe 12.
An elongated tube 18 is provided with a restricted lower end 19 and with a downwardly curved upper end portion ited grace Patent i: which communicates with the interior of the member In operation, it will be apparent that the normal water level is indicated at 21 in the tank 10 and that the level of the water in the tank 1%) at the completion of a flushing op ration thereof will be shown at 22. When the tank 10 is flushed and the water has reached the level shown at 22, water in the tube 13 will drop its level thus effecting a partial vacuum within the tube 15 due to the resistance of the constricted portion 17 therein and the seal effected by the solution in the container 13. A siphon action will begin in the tube 14, and the restrictions 17 and 19 are predetermined in size so that only a measured amount of the cleansing solution contained in the container 13 is dispensed at each operation. The evacuating action of the tube 18 ends when all the water has flowed therefrom. As the flush tank begins to refill, the water level will rise to a point indicated at 23 again sealing the orifice l9 and the tube 18 will fill above the atmospheric pressure and. such pressure will be resisted by the solution contained in the container 13 and the puddle of solution remaining in the bowl 16. This temporarily increased pressure serves for a short period of time to inject solution from the tube 15 through the orifice 17 and through the pipe 12 into the commode bowl where it will remain until the tank 10 is again flushed and while so remaining will act to cleanse, deodorize and/or perfume the bowl.
While but one form of the invention has been shown and described herein, it will be readily apparent to those skilled in the art that many minor modifications may be made without departing from the spirit of the invention or the scope of the appended claim.
What is claimed is:
A device of the character described comprising, in combination with a conventional flush tank having a drain pipe connected thereto, and an overflow pipe mounted therein, the provision of a solution container mounted in said tank, means operable by the normal flushing of said tank for dispensing a portion of the contents of said container into said overflow pipe, said means including a vertical tube extending into the upper portion or" said overflow pipe and having a restricted orifice in its lower end, a cup mounted in said overflow pipe and encompassing said restricted orifice, an inverted U-shaped tube having one end connected to the upper end of said vertical tube and the other end passing through the upper end of said container and terminating near the bottom thereof, and a second vertical tube mounted in said tank and connected at its upper end with the central portion of said first-mentioned vertical tube, said second vertical tube having a restricted orifice in its lower end, said lower end being in vertical spaced relation to the low water level of said tank.
