This' invention relates to apparatus kfor flushing purposes wherein a reseivoir is to to be discharged by means of a siphon, and my improvement is directed particularly to novelineans, under the control of an. actuating device,l for permitting the Siphon to function. Y
Heretoforeyso far as I am aware, flushing by siphonage has been entirelyk automatic, causing the reservoir di'schargeto be intermittent with each refilling operation, and while desirable yfor use in public toilets and the like, this automatic intermittency of discharge is not required in dwellings or the like, where control is necessaryto provide the flushing discharge asoccasion demands. Therefore. my invention consists broadly in adapting discharge by siphonvto houseor orthe like, said traps vwill be automatically refilled.

`The pipe 9 is part of a hollow coil that inchicles the bend 11, vertical portion 12, bend y13, vertical portion V141, bend 15 and vertical portion 16, the latter terminating in `an* open end 17 opposed to and suitably spaced from the tank base. As shown the `verticalportions 12,14: and 416 constitute straight lengths arranged in parallelism.
The coil thus represented, all parts whereof excepting the lower portion of pipe 9-are located'below the normal water level in the tank, here indicated at 18, is intended to provide a Siphon for discharging the tank contents down to the low level at the pipe end 17, leaving behiii'da water seal in the coil portions-12, lathat provides an air pocket in the bend l15 and prevents flow through 'the coil of water rising in portion 16J as the tank refills. Consequently, `when the tank has been completely refilled up to its normaly level, .such for example ais that indicated at 18, only the` water of the water'seal entrapped in coil. portions 12, 13 and 14 will remain in the c'oil, with the exception of the water that rises in coil portion 16 to a point fat which'air entrapped in bend 15 iscompressed under the hydrostatic pressure ex- It therefore becomes necessary to relieve the ,air pressure in 'bend 15 in order to permit a isiphoning action to be established through the coil, and this object isV accomplished by me in thefollowing manner.
