1321504 Knitting-machines J P STEVENS & CO Inc 29 July 1971 [4 Aug 1970] 35757/71 Heading D1C In a warp knitting machine in which wefts are laid between two endless chains 1L, ER- which convey them to the knitting line - by a diagonal endless chain 5 carrying yarn packages, the yarns are tensioned only when taken and gripped by the conveying chains. The yarns are thereby placed across the chains in tension, but strain on the yarn and linting is avoided: The yarns are tensioned by tension devices, e.g. cymbal discs 20, on an endless chain 8 moving parallel to and synchronously with the diagonal chain 5. The discs 1 may be forced apart over the major part of the run, by a cam operated rod 15 engaging between them. Alternatively the discs may be operated by solenoids.
