Abstract

1321227 Skid rails for furnaces BRITISH GAS CORP 15 July 1970 [23 July 1969] 37015/69 Heading F4B A furnace skid rail or other work support comprises an outer tube 12 of heat resisting alloy or refractory material and a spaced inner tube 13 of mild steel carrying cooling fluid, e.g. water. The tubes may be spaced by a spiral strip 14 as shown or by discrete spacers and air may be circulated through the space between the tubes. The invention may be applied to an inverted U-support (Figs. 3 and 4) or to a looped support in which a round billet rests in the loop (Figs. 5 and 6). Three skid rails may be arranged with the middle rail below the other two and offset towards one side to support a square billet lengthways (Fig. 7). The embodiment of Figs. 3 and 4 (not shown) could be mounted on a bogie or a conveyer.
