Abstract
1,168,238. Skid rails for furnaces. HœTTENWERK OBERHAUSEN A.G. 2 Aug., 1968 [3 Aug., 1967], No. 36889/68. Heading F4B. A skid rail assembly for pusher type furnaces comprises water-cooled tubes 3 carrying insulating blocks 4 and skids 5 with dependent flanges 7 shielding a billet 2 from the cooling effect of the tubes, the blocks 4 being held by strips 6 welded to the tubes or by thickening the upper side walls of the skids as shown on the left of the drawing. The tubes 3 are partially surrounded by refractory 9. In a modification (Fig. 3) the flanges 7 are shortened and the holding strips 6 fill the gaps between the flanges and the blocks 4 being extended downwardly to form frames straddling the tubes 3 to which they may be welded.
