Abstract

1320352 Pyrotechnic composition FRANCE ARMED FROCES MINISTER OF 21 Oct 1970 [5 Nov 1969] 50045/70 Heading C1D A pyrotechnic composition for use in rocket tracers comprises a mixture of an illuminating substance having a strong emissive power in the infra-red zone, a fluorinated resin, and an element which will react with the resin to reduce the fluorine atoms. The reducing element may be present in an amount up to 20% in excess of that required for the reduction of the other components of the composition in air. Barium stearate may be added to regulate the burning time and to act as a lubricant, and a polyester resin may be included as a binder. The fluorinated resin may be powdered polytetrafluorethylene, polytrifluorochlorethylene, polyvinylidenefluoride, or tetrafluorethylene - hexafluoropropylene copolymer, or small pieces of elastomeric vinylidene fluoride - hexafluoropropylene copolymer. Suitable reducing elements are Mg, Zr, Al, Cr, and Si in powder form. Illuminating substances specified are oxides of Fe, Ni, Cu, or Hf, or these metals in elementary form. The mixture of ingredients may be moulded under pressure at normal or raised temperature.
