Abstract

1320141 Powder metallurgy ALFRED HERBERT Ltd 17 June 1970 [2 June 1969] 27777/69 Heading C7D A metal powder for preparing shaped sintered parts is mixed with polyvinyl acetate solution and after removing the solvent the porous mass is crushed to a powder. The polyvinyl acetate preferably forms 1-10 wt per cent of the metal and is preferably dissolved in acetone. The solvent may be removed in a vacuum oven and after crushing the powder as pressed at 100-230‹ C and then sintered after removal from the die. Examples are given of production of cutting tips from WC-TiC-Co and WC-TiC-TaC-Co.
