Abstract
1320014 Valves ROBERT BOSCH GmbH 6 July 1970 [5 July 1969] 32646/70 Heading F2V A pressure-balanced, double-seated electromagnetically controlled valve comprises a ball valve member 7 which is movable on to a first seat 5 by means of a spring-biased stem 8 and is movable on to a second seat by fluid pressure at the inlet passage 38. The inlet passage contains a filter 29 and the valve body has formed therein service and drain passages 27 and 28, respectively. A passage 30, 31, 32 and 15 leads from the inlet to the right-hand side, as seen in the drawing, of an armature 13 secured to the stem 8, with the area of the stem end 14 being equal to area of ball 7 upon which inlet pressure acts when the ball is engaged with seat 5. In the de-energized state of the electromagnetic coil and core 19, 16 the valve attains the state shown. Upon energizing the coil, armature 13 draws stem 8 in opposition to spring 9 so permitting ball 7 to engage seat 6. The stem end 14 projects slightly beyond the associated face of armature 13 to so prevent sticking of the stem to core 16. In a modification, (Fig. 2, not shown), the ball-actuating stem is made hollow and its righthand end is made to have an area greater than the area of ball 7 upon which the inlet pressure acts. Accordingly, the stem experiences a pressure differential which at all times acts in the direction to engage ball 7 against seat 5, the spring 9 being omitted in this embodiment.
