Abstract

1319923 Short trajectory projectile WERKZEUGMASCHINENFABRIK OERLIKONBUHRLE AG 24 Nov 1971 [8 Dec 1970] 54514/71 Heading F3A A short trajectory projectile comprises a body 1, a separable head 5 at least part of which melts due to air resistance, a plastics casing 9 formed with a driving band 10, and a cover 11. Upon firing, the casing 9 and cover 11 are first discarded due to centrifugal force. The part 8 is then melted by the impinging air stream and allows air to enter the space 7, whereupon the head 5 is burst by the increased pressure and separates from the body 1. Air then flowing into bore 2 and outwardly through radial bores 3 produces turbulence on the external surface of the body 1 with a consequent braking effect.
