1319874 Steering motor vehicles COMPAGNIE GENERALE D'ELECTRICITE and C VARICHON 19 April 1971 [20 March 1970 11 Dec 1970] 24766/71 Heading B7H A vehicle having all four wheels steerable is guided for reversible travel above a single track or between two tracks R1, R2 by two pairs of sensors P1, P2 and P3, P4 per axle, only the pair in advance of the respective axle, with respect to the direction of motion a, being operative. The sensors P1, P2 ... are moved into and out of engagement with the tracks by shock-absorbing rams S1, S2 ... which operate automatically when the vehicle direction is reversed. The sensor movement is fed by linkwork m, n, r, s to the tie rods B of the steering mechanism. A servo mechanism A may assist the steering effort. Manual steering gear, which may be rack-and-pinion F, is provided for travel away from the tracks and may be duplicated at the opposite end of the vehicle.
