Abstract

1,107,052. Endless tracks; tracked vehicles. E. PRINOTH. 8 June, 1965 [19 June, 1964], No. 24116/65. Heading B7H. An endless track vehicle comprises a continuously flexible endless track 23a passing over wheel pairs 14, 14, 15, 15 and further endless tracks 23b, 23b, 23c, 23c disposed laterally of the track 23a and connected thereto by transversely disposed metal bars 24a, 24b, of triangular cross-section. The vehicle has a quadrangular chassis 12 in which are mounted an engine 2, change speed gear 3 and seats 5 and 5a, and flexible shafts 17a, 17b and 18, the shaft 17a being driven from the change speed gear 8 by a chain-and-sprocket drive 20, 21 and 22. The wheels 14 and 15 have pneumatic tyres with moulded teeth corresponding metal projections on the belt 23a. The wheels 14 are mounted on balance beams 13 carried by a shaft 18 resiliently mounted at 18a in the frame. A pair of vehicles may be connected in side by side relationship with a hinge in between, steering being effected by selective actuation of the vehicle engines, or in tandem by a triangular coupling 8 hinged at its base to one vehicle and having a ball joint connection at its apex to the other, steering being effected by actuation of a pair of rams 9. For steering an individual vehicle a bar 10a carrying ploughshare devices 106 is mounted on the triangular frame 8, the bar being angled for steering by the rams 9 and 9a. The ploughshare devices cut the ground and tend to follow the direction they are pointing, whereby the vehicle is steered.
