Abstract

1319604 Multiple push-button switches; electric motor controllers DYNAMICS CORP OF AMERICA 25 Aug 1970 40835/70 Heading H1N [Also in Division H2] In a multiple push-button switch assembly in which push-rods 22a, Figs. 8, 10, of the buttons actuate one or more of a plurality of sliders as 32D1, 32M associated with predetermined combinations of switch actuators 30D, 30M, separate control means for actuation of further switches in series with the switch combinations on depression of selected push-buttons is provided. The arrangement is particularly applied to a push-button variable speed control for an electric motor, Fig. 5 (not shown), in which different speeds are obtained by closure of selected switches (2)-(7) to obtain series or parallel combinations of field coils (B)-(E). The push-buttons 110, Fig. 4, are arranged in pairs on cross-shaped sliders 21 movable in slotted guides 72 against the action of returnsprings 18 to operate the sliders 32 via projections 66 on push-rod parts 22. Selected spring blade contacts 38 thereby open or close circuits with fixed contacts 34 each comprising one of the switches (2)-(7) of Fig. 5 (not shown). Either push-button 110 of each pair closes the same switch combination via the sliders, but each push-button pair is associated with a slide switch 96, Fig. 3, for shunting a further motor field coil (A), Fig. 5 (not shown), and a series diode 27 to connect the field coil (B) directly to the supply line (L1). Since this slide switch 96 is closed only by a common rocket 92, 94 when any of the left hand push-buttons is depressed this gives a stepped-up speed range for all the left-hand buttons. The sliders 32D1 may have differently shaped recesses 52D, 52M with different cam-shaped sides 50, 58 to provide delayed or reciprocated motion to the selected sliders. The sliders 32M, further have grooves 51 permitting relative movement with the sliders 32D, some of which may be riveted together as at 55 to provide a common movement. The camming faces 46D, 46M for engaging the switch contacts 30D, 30M may also have elongated flats as 46M whereby the main switch (8), Fig. 5 (not shown), is opened before the other switches (1)-(7) are changed and closed afterwards, whereby only the main switch (8) is operated under current carrying conditions and is therefore the only switch requiring a high rating for circuit breaking.
