Abstract
1,200,160. Snap-action switches. L. W. BURCH, and H. K. BURCH. 25 July, 1967 [25 July, 1966], No. 2295/70. Divided out of 1,199,957. Heading H1N. On movement of switch actuating member 90 to the left, a wedging member 115 carried thereby slides along a fixed contact member 106 passing between the fixed contact member 106 and the movable contact 102 of a snap-action spring blade 96 and forcing the blade spring 96 over centre to open the contacts. The blade spring 96 is an M-shaped blade like the one disclosed in copending application 34068/67. In its other stable position a contact 104 carried by blade 96 engages a fixed contact 108. These contacts are separated in a similar manner to the first set by a wedging member 124 carried by actuator 90 on return movement of the actuator. Overtravel in either direction causes one or other wedging member 122, 124 to jam the respective contact set 104, 108 or 102, 106 together with increased contact pressure. The wedging members may carry contact bridges on their leading edges to provide a more rapid opening for D.C. operation. In Fig. 5, the wedging members 142, 150 are resilient spring blades which co-operate with respective fixed cam surfaces 144, 152 on overtravel. These cam surfaces deflect the blades 142, 150 after the snap-action blade has passed overcentre to increase the contact pressure of the closed contacts.
